Back to School - SFCOG Updates for 8/17

Sunday is Coming!

This Sunday, August 17 at both the 8:30 and 11:00 worship services we will focus on education and helping us all to better understand the joys, challenges, prayer requests, and ways to be more informed, engaged, and supportive of what God is doing through education.

This year we will have panel discussion with Phil Schiavoni as our facilitator. The panel will include representatives from public, private, & home-school models, as well as therapy support services. At the end of each worship time, we will offer a prayer of commissioning & blessing over educators, parents, and students.

This Sunday afternoon from 2:00-4:00, we also have the opportunity to participate in a community prayer service at the Spiritual Center at Shippensburg University. Pastor Rodney and other community pastors will lead throughout this guided prayer experience. All are invited to intercede for our schools, our communities, and our world through prayer.

Council Highlights

The August council meeting took place this week, and several important matters of ministry were discussed. Topics of conversation included updates on nominations for the fall elections, various policy developments and revisions, and ongoing leadership needs as we plan for the future. Potential new members were approved, pending each individual’s personal affirmation of commitment.

Church Picnic

On the first Sunday of September (September 7th), we will have our annual Church Picnic. This takes place at Memorial Park and features a combined service at 10:00 am followed by a meal together. The church will provide chicken & ham, drinks, and paper products, and we invite each household to bring side items to share. To help us plan for the picnic, please RSVP by signing up on the clipboards located around the church: at the side entrances, in the gathering place, in your Sunday School classrooms, and in the Children & Youth areas. We hope to see you all there!

Community Night

Our Wednesday night ministries will be resuming on September 3rd from 6:30-8:00! There’s something for everyone at community night, including Awana for Children, Youth Group for Teens, Young Adult Bible Study, and 3 other Adult Bible studies to choose from covering a variety of topics.

There will be a combined worship service, followed by the ministry fair showcase, and finally a light lunch will be provided.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
