Youth Sunday! SFCOG Updates for 6/1

Youth Sunday is Coming!

This week we will celebrate Youth Sunday & High School Graduation. We look forward to celebrating what God is doing in the Next Generation! Students will be leading both worship services. We will also acknowledge and celebrate with 10 graduates! During the second service, parents of our graduates will also be sharing (with that in mind, please be aware that the 11:00 service may go a little bit longer than an hour).

We are also honored to be chosen to host the High School Baccalaureate Service in our sanctuary on Monday evening, June 2 at 7:00.  We look forward to welcoming our community as we support our high school graduates.

*Please be sure to prayerfully consider supporting the youth who are going on the Mission Trip to North Carolina this summer. Support Letters were distributed to church mailboxes last weekend and are available in the gathering place if you would like to learn more.

This Sunday

Both services will meet at their usual times, but they will follow the same order of worship. 3 Students will be sharing reflections from Scripture at both services. The 11:00 service will also feature comments from the parents of our graduates (so it may be a little longer than usual).

Scam Awareness

It came to my attention that there was an email and text scam attempting to impersonate me, using a different email address that looked similar to my church email, but it was not me. Please know that no one within our church leadership will ever reach out to you secretly asking for help with purchasing or other similar things. We have policies and procedures in place to handle such matters, and if ever you are not sure about something, feel free to contact the church office for clarification.

There are many similar scams that attempt to impersonate someone you may know through various ways, so always be diligent with any email, text, or phone call, paying close attention the sender’s address and number. Never click on any links from an untrusted source. If you have received questionable emails or texts, you may want to block that contact, and even make a scam report at reportfraud.ftc.gov.

Also, if you are involved in committees or care groups that use e-mail to communicate, our IT director recommends that you list separate e-mail addresses as “BCC” recipients (blind carbon copy), so that e-mails are not easily discoverable by potential scammers. Please note that we do value your personal information and your privacy, so this e-mail distribution list (including the updates and prayer requests sent out by Pastor Gary and myself) are highly secured and only certain people can send out to them.

Vacation Bible School

We are looking forward to Bible School on June 22-26! Most of our key leadership positions have been filled (thank you!) but there is always room for more helpers if you’d like to serve children & families in this important and fun way!  Please plan to attend the VBS training meeting on June 11 at 7:30, and be sure to submit any needed clearance paperwork in a timely manner (see below for more info).

Volunteer Clearances

We always welcome new volunteers for our Children & Youth Ministries! We do require training and background clearances to serve in these areas, and we will help you work through this process. Karen Marr is our Child Protection Coordinator.  If you have questions concerning clearances for volunteering in church ministry, please contact Karen Marr at ChildProtectionCoordinator@shipfcog.org.

Communications Updates

*Be sure to check out our Activities Calendar and the Events page on our website to learn about more upcoming opportunities!

The June edition of our “FYI” Newsletter is available in the Gathering Place or the center section of the Sanctuary. The FYI contains information about upcoming events, small groups opportunities, giving & attendance information, and more.

If you have information you would like to communicate, communication request forms are available from the church office, in the Gathering Place, or online.

Looking forward to worshipping with you in the Sanctuary or Online this Sunday!

Announcement, Praises, and Prayer Requests

Dear Family,

Due to schedule changes, there are now 2 places available for anyone 50 years or older who would like to join the Living Stones on Thursday, May 22 for a tour of Martin's Bakery and lunch at Cracker Barrel following.  There is no cost for the tour, but each person is responsible for their meal at Cracker Barrel.  We plan to leave the Annex Parking lot at 10:15.  We will take the church van and will carpool.  Please respond to this email if you are interested and are able to attend.

The following are now at home recuperating: Carole Kann and Felecia Kelley (Misty Bodkins’ mother),

Walt Crider’s heart procedure was today, but I have not been able to talk to Walt yet.

Paul Gsell is scheduled to come home from Menno Haven Rehab on Saturday.

I recently learned that Nancy Mellott was in the hospital for four days.  She has returned to Lutheran SpiriTrust.

Willis Piper (Deb Pelow’s dad) is in Carlisle Hospital dealing with a broken toe that has become infected.

Thank you for partnering in prayer!

For His Glory,

Pastor Gary

Scam Alert!

Hello Church Family,

It has come to my attention that there is an email scam attempting to impersonate me, using a different email address that looks similar to my church email but it is not me. I am not in need of any help with gift cards, please disregard those emails and do not respond.

Always be diligent with any email and pay close attention the sender’s address.

Have a great week!
